Since my childhood days, I had always been interested in assembling plastic models. My interest in this area later became a major influence in my decision to study mechanical systems. During my senior year in high school, choosing a university was a hard decision to make. However at that point of time, my sister, who was studying in a graduate school in Japan, told me about her interesting life in Japan and the mechanical and technological advancement in Japan. Those encouragement words from my sister then became the major driving force for my decision to study in Japan. |

The primary reason for choosing Waseda University was its strong emphasis on research. Most courses in Japanese universities divide into research departments in the senior year. However, in Waseda University, we can proceed on to participate in the research activities in our third year.
Presently, I am studying at the Laboratory of Mechanical Design in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. I like to study the workings of machines and at the same time I have great interest towards automobiles. In this laboratory, we focus our research on the study of mechanical materials. At this point of time, we are studying about construction of automobile chassis. Japan is a leading producer of automobiles, and in this laboratory, we have the opportunity to conduct joint research with Japanese automakers. Through this joint research arrangement, successful design could then be marketed. Before entering Waseda University, I had no prior knowledge with regards to automobile assembling, but now I am able to interact directly with automakers and understand the problems faced in realizing a design according to its specifications. |

As I do not have any background in Japanese, I proceeded to study Japanese for a period of 6 months in Korea after graduation. During that time, I also attended Mathematics and Physics classes. I was also grateful to receive help from my sister in the search for a Japanese Language School in Japan. |

It is very important to have a specific aim before you come to Japan. For instance, some of my friends, who came to Japan without any purpose, after some time here, became bored and went back to their countries. If you have dreams or aims, you will have the strength to endure any difficulties here. It would be good to have a self-motivating personal declaration like "If I am to study in Japan, I must enter OOO University" or "I must learn more about OOO during my stay in Japan". This is important because if you are not able to enter a good university or a course of interest, you will regret and will not enjoy your stay in Japan. |
